(2008-09-04) OWA 2007 Shows “440 Login Timeout”

Posted by Jorge on 2008-09-04

I was setting up a demo/test rig with all kinds of stuff to work with ILM2007 and provision objects. Part of that install was Exchange 2007 with SP1. So my one and only VM hosts the following:

  • Windows Server 2003 SP2
  • ADDS, ADCS
  • SQL 2005 SP2
  • Exchange 2007 SP1 + RollUp 3
  • ILM2007 FP1 (MIIS 2003 SP2 & CLM 2007)
  • Visual Studio 2008

And I still want to install OCS 2007 and Quest Active Roles on it!!! ;-))

REMARK: I trust you are NOT that crazy to do this in a production environment! If you do.. well, then go see a doctor!

OK, back to the main problem. I know everything worked but suddenly OWA started throwing a message like "440 Login Timeout" in the upper left corner. Whatever I did, nothing worked. I also found it worked with NON-forms-based authentication but not with forms-based authentication. Weird! On the internet I found all kinds of info to reset the password of two IIS related account. Well that did not help. What did help was to just remove the OWA virtual directory and recreate it again through PowerShell. More info on how to solve this problem can be found in MS-KBQ941201.

Cheers,
Jorge
