(2019-10-30) A Thousand Blog Posts!

I started blogging in 2005. My very first blog on the internet from me was on November 8th 2005. At that time I was inspired by a friend at Microsoft and a little bit by myself. I was active in the, back then, Microsoft newsgroups for AD (Directory Services). My main reason to start blogging was that I was so tired of repeating the same answer in those newsgroups over and over again, that I started searching for a way to repeatedly provide the same answer without too much additional work. Starting a blog was a very good idea. Back then I started my blog somewhere else and about 8 years ago I migrated my blog away to WordPress, which provided me more autonomy and freedom in doing what I wanted the way I wanted it to be done.

Now about 14 years later THIS is 1000th blog post!

Soon after starting my blog, and along the way my goal changed to blog about my real world experiences, knowledge and scripts so that others could learn from it and directly use that knowledge and tools/scripts in their day to day jobs. Based upon the stats I can say, since the first day the blog has had a serious amount of visitors and it is referenced quite many time in the Microsoft Forums and other places. Good to see that many other people are using it. I also love the comments being made people and the mails that I get from people regarding the issues they have and for which they are seeking some answers.

(2010-10-27) Who’s Ya Daddy?

"I’m Ya Daddy!"

On October 16th 2010 at 07:25 (local time) my wife and I became the proud parents of a healthy and beautiful boy. His name is Sebastian Jorge de Almeida Pinto. The birth card we created for him is shown below in Dutch and Portuguese. A rough translation in English is at the bottom. Both mom and son are doing great. "Sleep" still is a luxury! 🙂

(2009-04-15) Back Again In The Community Arena

I have been away for a month or two. No blogging, no posting, no newsgroups, no activedir.org, no nothing! The last two months I have been quite busy (personal and work). I travelled twice to the USA (MVP Summit and TEC). I always like to visit both, but the jetlag always "kills". But the most "time consuming" was my own baby girl. At the moment she’s almost three months old and she’s lots of fun, but the lack of sleep and being tired all the time really kills you bit by bit. We are getting back on track again as she most of the times sleeps through the whole night without waking up! YES! YES! YES!

My wife and I have are much more interaction with our daughter. In the beginning, as probably all babies, she only ate, cried, slept, filled the diapers (what a life! J) and now she laughs at us when we talk to her. And when we talk to her she "talks" back, well sorta… It is more like "ohhh", "ahhh", "ehhh", etc, but it is lots of fun to see!

And this is our little "princess"! Ain’t she cool! J

 

So, I hope to be back into the community arena as soon as possible and start doing community stuff again!

(2009-02-01) It’s A Girl – She’s Here!

On January 24^th 2009 at 13:23 (local time) my wife and I became the parents of a healthy and beautiful girl. Her name is Anne Rosa de Almeida Pinto. The birth card we created for her is shown below in Dutch and Portuguese. A translation in English is at the bottom. Both mom and daughter are doing great. Suddenly "sleep" became a luxury! 😉

(2008-12-19) A New Experience – A New Chapter – Well-Known Initials

Yesterday I was talking to a new colleague of mine. I told him I was going to be a dad in the end of January somewhere. He knew I am a Directory Services MVP and out of nothing he said: "I already know the initials of your child!". I asked him: "so, what will it be then" (and I never expected this one!) Well, he said: "Looking at two facts. You are a Directory Services MVP and your last name is De Almeida Pinto. So, that must mean your child’s first name must start with an L.". Then he said: "The initials will be: L.D.A.P."

I was stunned! Dealing with that stuff for years and trust me this is the first time I realized that! ;-))

Yes, we already know what it’s going to be, but I (we) won’t tell yet. You’ll have to wait until next January.

I think this is cool! 😉 Now let’s see if I can convince my wife to think it is cool also. Therefore I need your help. Please post as a comment to this blogpost all the first names for a girl or boy you can think of that start with a "L" (please no swearing, dirty words or whatever!)

(2008-07-06) Married For 1 Year

Exactly one year ago on this same date (7-7-7) my wife and I got married. Although it has been a weird exciting year, a lot of things happened whether we liked it or not. Except for one event we enjoyed all the others. To summarize:

• Marriage (Thanks to everyone sending cards and/or being there)
  
• Accident during our honeymoon and recovery of my wife (she’s doing great again with some "minor" things)
  
• Speaker at DEC 2008 (now called The Experts Conference – TEC) (Thanks to Gil, Christine, Stella and all the others)
  
• Speaker at Windows Server 2008 launch at TechDays in Belgium (Thanks to Arlindo)
  
• MVP Summit (Thanks to Microsoft)
  
• I changed jobs (Thanks to my new employer)
  
• My wife changed jobs (Thanks to her new employer)
  

Looking forward to another exciting year with her!

(2008-04-10) A Change Towards A New Challenging Identity!

Hello All!

After working for CMG/LogicaCMG/Logica for about 8,5 years, I have decided to accept a new exciting challenge at Oxford Computer Group in the Benelux. My new role at Oxford Computer Group is "Senior (Technical) Consultant" for Microsoft IdAM solutions/technologies.

(2007-09-11) For Better Or For Worse…

As some of you may know, I got married on 7-7-7. Concerning the "for better or for worse…"-part I (or we) can say we definitely got the "for worse"-part in the face! If I told you all the details this post would take a sh!tload of time to complete. So, to make it easy I’m going to explain it bullet-wise. You cannot imagine how our honeymoon was! It sucked big time. Let me tell you why…

07-07-07: Marriage! Yeah! 😉 This was fun, great people, great pictures, great day and a great party afterwards!

12-07-07: We got on EACH of our bikes for our honeymoon. Driving around starting in the Netherlands, to Belgium, to Luxemburg, to Germany, to France, to Switzerland, to Italy and the other way around back again…The first day we stayed in Germany right after passing the border with Luxemburg. We had dinner, drank some wine that we bought on the way…

13-07-07: Today’s trip was to some place in Switzerland…until…this is where the bad news starts. Almost at the end of the day, still in France, my wife is hit by an oncoming biker. He makes a mistake making his curve, comes onto her side of the road and hits her. Result: broken hand, stitches in fingers, broken hip-socket, quite a lot of damage to her bike. She goes into the hospital.

14-07-07: Filling in damage reports with the other guy. Doctors mention my wife is going to get surgery in the next days

15-07-07: Family from the Netherlands arrives to help us

16-07-07: Doctor tells us surgery must happen within 10 days. He also tells us surgery cannot happen as planned because the parts needed are not available. The parts needed are 100 km away and for some stupid reason it takes a freakin’ week to get them in the hospital where my wife is. We start loosing trust in the doctor and the hospital. The "fight" with the insurance company starts to get her back to the Netherlands

17-07-07: the "fight" continues…

18-07-07: the "fight" continues… We finally get the word my wife is going to transported back to the Netherlands by ambulance

19-07-07: Dutch ambulance drives about 700 km to where we were

20-07-07: Dutch ambulance drives about 700 km back to a hospital in the Hague. She is immediately quarantined because she came from a foreign hospital. I drive back on my bike to our home in the Netherlands (about 600 km). At the end of the day I drive with my car to the hospital in the Hague

21/22/23-07-07: Driving from our home to visit my wife in the hospital in the Hague

24-07-07: Driving from our home to visit my wife in the hospital in the Hague. She gets surgery to repair her hip-socket. The end-result of the surgery is good and doctors are happy

25-07-07: Driving from our home to visit my wife in the hospital in the Hague…Drains are removed (which is quite fast!)

26/27/28/29-07-07: Driving from our home to visit my wife in the hospital in the Hague

30-07-07: My wife is transported by ambulance from the Hague to a hospital in the city where we live

31-07-07: Visiting my wife in the hospital in the city where we live

01/02-08-07: Visiting my wife in the hospital in the city where we live

03-08-07: Visiting my wife in the hospital in the city where we live. Stitches are removed

04/05/06/07/08/09/10/11/12/13/14/15/16/17/18/19-08-07: Visiting my wife in the hospital in the city where we live. Recovery in the hospital

20-08-07: A special bed and all kinds of other stuff is delivered at our home. She’s coming home today! 😉

21/22/23/24/25/26/27/28-08-07: Recovery at home

29-08-07: She goes to a special recovery centre that is going to help her doing exercises and to help her to walk again

30-08-07: Visiting my wife in the recovery centre. She’s going to stay for about a month or more

01-09-07 until present: she’s still in the recovery centre and she’s doing great. With (very) small steps she going forward and forward. At this moment I’m visiting her each day and taking care of all kinds of insurance sh!t.

Now, does this suck or what?!

Our idea at this moment: as soon as she’s better again, we are going on a honeymoon again and the enjoy the "for better"-part!

(2007-07-05) Marriage & Wedding Rings…

Just two days to go, and the on 7-7-7 I’ll be getting married at 13.30! I can’t believe it time has passed so fast. I remember presenting at DEC in 2006. Right after DEC Nelleke and I hired a car and drove around (Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Route 66, etc..) It was way cool!

Just a few weeks before taking the flight to Las Vegas, I bought a engagement ring for her as I planned to pop "the question". In Bryce Canyon (Inspiration Point) I got on one of my knees and asked her to marry me. Well, guess what… she said: "Yes!"….

The result….about 1,5 years later, on 7-7-7, marriage at 13.30, BBQ at 17.30 and party at 20.30!
