(2006-11-08) Microsoft Offering Pre-Configured Virtual Machines

Posted by Jorge on 2006-11-08

Since a few days Microsoft offers pre-configured virtual machines that can be loaded into Virtual PC or Virtual Server. That way you only need to download it from the Microsoft site, load it into VPC/VS and use it! I wonder what will be faster: "downloading the pre-configured VHDs" or "installing and configuring it yourself"

You can get the VHDs here (download location and searching for VHD):

It is a shame they do not offer stuff for VMware, which I use a lot! Can we blame them?

Cheers,
Jorge

  1. If you want to use VMWare you do have the convert VHD to VMware option inside VMWare Workstation.

But have you tried VM with VMM – Virtual Machine Manager (on Microsoft Connect) we have really moved leaps and bounds.

Also Virtual Server R2 SP1 has alot of new cool features, for me one of the coolest is the ability to mount VHD drives as another drive on your machine.
